Exploring Seattle Southside with Connor Fields, Olympic BMX Champion

Olympic gold medalist Connor Fields visited Seattle Southside for the USA BMX Gold Cup in September 2025.

Produced in partnership with SeaTac BMX and hosted at North SeaTac Park, the Gold Cup brought together competitors from across the country and even the globe. Fields kicked off the weekend with a sold-out BMX clinic. Before the next day's races, we showed him some of our favorite spots around Seattle Southside.

Local Eats, Global Flavors

Seattle Southside is a foodie paradise, and Fields easily fell in love with its culinary delights. We fueled up for the big day at Neighborhood Cafe in Tukwila. Fields loved the Filipino fusion brunch and coffee flight, which includes inventive flavors like mint mojito, ube brulee, and Fields' favorite, the coconut pandan. This unique, locally owned spot provides a taste of the wide array of global flavors you can find in the region.

A Journey Through the History of Flight

Fields had a blast checking out dozens of vintage planes at The Museum of Flight in Tukwila. With more than 175 aircraft and spacecraft, it's one of the largest collections of its kind in the world. Even a six-foot-tall athlete like Fields can feel like a kid walking under and inside the massive jets on display.

Fresh Seafoood and a Seaside Stroll

For lunch, we took him to Anthony's HomePort & Lower Deck, a Northwest classic with stunning views of Puget Sound. Fields feasted on a Pacific Northwest classic, pan-seared salmon, with fresh seasonal produce. It's located right near the Des Moines Marina, so you can take a walk right after eating. We even spotted a seal bobbing in the water!

BMX SeaTac

Finally, the main event: the USA BMX Gold Cup Finals. This event, which ran from September 12-14, 2025, brought together more than 700 BMX competitors, including Olympic athletes visiting from all corners of the globe, to race for the Gold Cup Plate! Competitors ranged from 18 months to 80 years to old. Many present were membrs of SeaTac BMX, including world champions like youth athlete Tenisyn McKee, and Lain Van Ogle, a four-time world champion and the program director of SeaTac BMX. Many other racers came from across the country. It was an electrifying scene, and we were honored to be part of it.
