Men in Black Birthday Bash Returns – With a Twist!
The Men in Black Birthday Bash (MIBBB Fest) is back for a Special Limited Edition on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Quarterdeck at the Des Moines Marina. Inspired by the 1947 Maury Island UFO sighting just across the water from Des Moines, this unique event celebrates the legendary origins of the mysterious Men in Black.
This year’s Bash features classic MIBBB Fest cosplay, a dance party, and the return of the fan-favorite Colleen Rafferty Alien Abductee Look-Alike Contest, inspired by Kate McKinnon’s hilarious SNL character. Come dressed in classic black and white, channel your best Colleen (or Carl) Rafferty, or arrive in your finest alien attire—crash landings welcome.
Two special guest "government agents," played by podcaster Shea Drury of Rainy Day Rabbit Holes and Scott Schaefer of South King Media, will conduct the competition (aka questioning of “abductees.”)
